WELCOME TO OUR WORLD!!!

Welcome to our journey of love, living in the face of loss and just plain living. We've experienced the greatest loss a parent can face--the loss our our baby daughter, Sylvia. She flew to Heaven due to complications of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) on 2/26/09. We have two "Earth Angel" children, Will and Stella. They have been a great help on this journey. We live a blessed rich life in spite of our loss. We are lucky to be parents to such special children. They are our life. Welcome to our life!

2/22/10 it is!

This morning I had my 28 week appt. (even though I'm much closer to 29 weeks) Anyhow, I talked with my doctor about many things. I do have gestational diabetes again this time. I'm not surprised as I had it with my other two. He will handle my diabetic care rather than dealing with those diabetic Nazis that brought me to tears and added lots of stress to my life during both prior pregnancies. I took all my info from having gestational diabetes with Sylvia. He knows a lot about it as he used to handle all diabetic care for his gestational diabetics. I feel a burden lifted knowing that he's going to monitor me this time. Then we talked about when to schedule the c-section. He suggested 38 weeks as I anticipate I'll be going on insulin within the next week or so. I bargained to hold the baby in another week. Because of all that I learned about lung development with Sylvia's pregnancy, I prefer to wait an extra week. Lungs don't start their major maturing until about 32 weeks. The longer the baby is in me (but not too long), the better the chances its lungs will be okay and the less chance the baby will endure a NICU stay. So, he suggested 2/22. I had his schedule memorized so I let him know this is a surgery day for him anyhow--an added bonus as it won't require any working around appointments for him. It will be weird having a baby on a Monday. My other 2 were born on Thursdays. Andy still says Thursdays are so sad for him. Was kind of hoping for a Thursday birth to turn those sad memories into happy ones again, but I do like the 2/22 date. My doctor did say that he'll write me an "out" card if I decide to deliver at 38 weeks. One of the options that week would be Feb. 18--a Thursday. Will and I are battling little colds right now. Looking forward to the weekend. It's been a long week. We got about 11 inches of snow but neither of us missed any work due to it. I'm glad as I want to save as much time as I can to use for my new little one. Have a great weekend, everyone!

  2. Nicolle-It's all because of gestational diabetes. Also, don't know if it is a he or a she. We'll see on 2/22:) Gest. diabetics' babies tend to be bigger. My first (Will) was 10 lbs. 5 oz. My doctor prefers to deliver insulin-dependent gest. diabetics at 38 weeks. Also, around here, it is common practice to perform c-section 1 week early hence 2/22. How are you feeling? I too am exited to see your little sunshine/rainbow!
