WELCOME TO OUR WORLD!!!

Welcome to our journey of love, living in the face of loss and just plain living. We've experienced the greatest loss a parent can face--the loss our our baby daughter, Sylvia. She flew to Heaven due to complications of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) on 2/26/09. We have two "Earth Angel" children, Will and Stella. They have been a great help on this journey. We live a blessed rich life in spite of our loss. We are lucky to be parents to such special children. They are our life. Welcome to our life!

Relief

Ah, relief. I had forgotten what it felt like. We had our ultrasound today. After a long wait in Iowa City due to some emergencies they had to attend to (not involving us), the wait was well worth it! Ironically, I finished the book "The Shack" then my name was called over an hour after it was supposed to be. But, that was fine with us. We waited patiently. It was nice to see our favorite sonographer again, but a flood of emotions came over me as I lay there waiting for the ultrasound. I didn't want to open my eyes until I heard all was well, but she convinced me and everyone knows I couldn't have done it anyway :) I looked at the painting in the room. I had been in this room with Sylvia when she was alive inside me. THe painting was by an artist named Sylvia. I remember thinking it was a sign all would be well with her. Today I took it as a sign that she was right there with us. We stopped to see her on the way and asked for her protection on her younger sibling. She obliged. Anyhow, Glenda did a very detailed scan of the baby from head to toe. She started with the heart, "Yep, all four chambers are there." Then we saw a complete diaphragm! That was such good news. Then everything else followed suit--kidneys, bladder, spine, brain, lips (no cleft pallate)it all looked great! The baby has all four limbs and 10 fingers and 10 toes! All the measurements were right on. My amniotic fluid level is great. I coulnd't have asked for a better ultrasound. Thank you God and thank you, Glenda! Then the doctor and her fellow entered. The doctor was a middle-aged woman of Indian decent--very calm and happy. The fellow was upbeat also. As Glenda scanned for the doctor, the doctor made many comments. "Oh, it's so gorgeous," "That looks very beautiful actually." Imagine these being said in a happy thick Indian accent. It was music to our ears. Needless to say, we left on cloud 9. We went to "Bob's Your Uncle" for some steak sandwiches then headed to the Solon DQ for dessert. Man are we full, but it was sooooooo good. What a celebration! I feel like I can rest easier now. I feel confident that things are okay because Iowa City says they are. I feel hopeful and am actually picturing a baby in my arms. Now to make my decision on the H1N1 vaccine. I was pretty against it at first, but am more in the middle on it now. More information is out now, but I do believe some of the "info" I've heard are scare tactics. I'll just go with my gut. Thank you to all of you for all of your support and prayers. It means so much. We're also grateful to Ms. Sylvia for we know she has a hand in this too. We trust that she found the perfect living sibling for her big brother. I want my children to have such strong bonds that they are close forever. Much love to you all!
