WELCOME TO OUR WORLD!!!

Welcome to our journey of love, living in the face of loss and just plain living. We've experienced the greatest loss a parent can face--the loss our our baby daughter, Sylvia. She flew to Heaven due to complications of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) on 2/26/09. We have two "Earth Angel" children, Will and Stella. They have been a great help on this journey. We live a blessed rich life in spite of our loss. We are lucky to be parents to such special children. They are our life. Welcome to our life!

Another cdh angel

Please pray for Jackson Beal, who lost his battle with cdh yesterday. He fought a good fight, but is now at peace. My heart goes out to his parents, Candice and Rob. I read this news upon our return from the SHARE family picnic. It was a nice gathering of new friends all in our same situation. I believe God sits you down by people for reasons. Today we sat by a couple we had never seen at SHARE group before. When we got to talking, they shared that they are parents to Sam Ruppel, who would be six now. He was two weeks overdue and was deprived of oxygen too long. Had Sylvia lived, she would have been severely brain injured as her poor little body just couldn't turn the carbon dioxide to much needed oxygen. I feel sometimes that there are few babies who have died around here that were full term. Maybe it's me just feeling sorry for myself.. So, to meet her, who went 2 weeks overdue to lose her baby, I don't feel so so bad for myself. CDH is such a cruel killer. Most moms that do get the privilege of having a living baby do go to term. Then 50% of them lose their babies. Very sad. Rest in peace, Baby Jackson. Greet him lovingly and show him your favorite cloud and place to get ice cream, Baby Sylvia. BTW, we had to leave the picnic due to the tornado sirens going off. It doesn't look like it will get too bad though. In fact, I think it is done raining already. I'm ready for a nap. Doubt I'll get one in, but I'm gonna try!
Oh, and last night we went to a Cedar Rapids Kernals game. It was really fun. Bob and family went with us also. Will got the first batter's foul ball! The third base coach threw it up to Will pointing to him so that everyone knew it was his!

  1. Hi, Beth!
OK, this is the first blog I have ever visited! You are dragging me into this century! I like your blog!!! Love the montage! Ha! Will was the only one who actually made a basket!

I have one practical comment on your blog. I have trouble reading the stories on the right side. I am wondering if you could choose a darker color for the text. Yeah, my eyes are getting old, like the rest of me...

Beth, I know some days are really, really tough. And I, like everyone else, have been trying to comfort you with words of encouragement. Those words, I know, don't always help much.

What you guys have been living through just stinks. The pain is hard to deal with, and it comes back again and again. I am so sorry that Sylvia died.

We are with you in your pain, and we will never forget little Sylvi.

    Love you!
